The first scenes and footage of “The Lord Of The Rings: War Of The Rohirrim” were screened at the Festival d’Animation Annecy on June 13, 2023. The new Middle-earth movie tells a story that takes a long time (perhaps so’ n 260 years) before the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” about the people of Rohan and their war against the wildlings, which eventually became the only one of “The Two Towers” will give its name to the famous Helm’s Klamm.
New plot information
Namely, the focus of “The Lord Of The Rings: War Of The Rohirrim” is the then king of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, his sons Hama and Haleth, and his daughter, who J. R. R. Tolkien was uncredited, but is now called Hèra in the anime movie. She is the main character of “War Of The Rohirrim”because she – Warning, spoilers – the only thing is that the plot survives, as Phillipa Boyens, again co-writer of the original trilogy, put it at the Annecy Festival.
The other main characters are Freca, the leader of the wildlings, who wants to marry off his son Wulf to Hèra. Freca herself claims a claim to the throne of Rohan in an attempt to unite the two realms. But Helm is anything but enthusiastic about this proposal – and so the tragedy takes its course…
Enthusiastic reactions to the first scenes
A total of three larger scenes were screened at the Festival d’Animation Annecy: the opening scene of the film, in which the main character Hèra is introduced as she rides her horse to a hill to feed a large eagle. Hèra would be neither “a princess in distress nor a warrior”.
In addition, there was a dialogue scene in King Helm’s throne roomaddressing the inequality of men and women in Rohan, as well as a trailer of sorts featuring the movie’s big action sequences complete with elephants, severed arms and lots of horses (which, by the way, caused a lot of trouble for the film’s animation crew).
Such as our French sister site, among others and the American magazine report, the images and scenes shown are said to be very reminiscent of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Not least because of this, the first impressions of “The Lord Of The Rings: War Of The Rohirrim” created enthusiasm among the audience. The reactions on the internet also give a very clear picture:
#Lord of the Rings War of the Rohirrim 🐴 is already rocketing to the top of my most anticipated movies of 2024. The (very short and unfinished) footage shown at #Annecy2023 looks fantastic. This is 100% in line with the original trilogy while also being very much an anime. I can not wait.

Write something like that that the movie is already rocketing to the top of their most anticipated movies for 2024 and that the footage shown looks fantastic. And perhaps most importantly, “This is 100 percent like the original trilogy and very anime at the same time.”
I just completed the work in progress call for the new #LotR Movie #WaroftheRoirrimand i must say the marriage between lord of the rings and #anime never looked so good! The world and characters looked very authentic. Can’t wait to see this in theaters next year. pic.twitter.com/3H2DyWppWb

Also writes that the connection between “The Lord of the Rings” and anime works very well and also praises the very authentic characters and plots. “I can’t wait to see the film in theaters next year.”
J’ai vu les premieres images of l’anime (japonais) «The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim»
If so, beware specially convaincu pour l’instant, j’espérais autre chose MAIS on retrouve vraiment le style des films de PJ et les decors semblent reussis

However, there are also isolated voices that are significantly less enthusiastic, and we don’t want to hide that at the moment. While some attendees have their doubts due to the still very unfinished artwork and anime style, writes only that he wasn’t convinced yet because he expected something different.
The Lord Of The Rings: War Of The Rohirrim By Director Kenji Kamiyama will hit German cinemas on April 11, 2024but for that it will probably get a different (German) title.
