“How do I convince my sister that she needs help?”

dear community

For years I have suspected (30) that my sister (31) has ADD. She is very erratic and has a hard time focusing on the important things. Her apartment is very messy and she cannot hold a job for more than two years before she is fired.

I’ve talked to her about it several times but she blocks it. I also advised her to seek psychological help so that she learns to deal with her ADD and possibly also receive medication.

Then over a year ago it completely escalated (multiple police operations due to debt restructuring and the neglected apartment). I gave them a choice. Either I call in the authorities (KESB for setting up a deputy) or they let me take care of their finances/administrative affairs. She chose the latter.

Since I have a power of attorney and take care of all your administrative matters, including paying the bills, things have calmed down a bit. Since then, she has not received a notice of termination from her job.

I will start my studies next year and have neither the time nor the strength to continue to support them as I have done so far.

How can I convince her to seek professional help? Should I just back off and let it escalate again until the authorities eventually intervene themselves?
