New this week on Netflix: Brutal action doubled down and finally more of the streaming service’s biggest sci-fi gem

Like every Sunday, we give you a quick overview of what’s coming to Netflix next week. This time around, two action titles take center stage. You could already see one in the cinema, the other is now exclusive and new on Netflix. In addition, a sci-fi series finally continues with new stories and “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe shows his “weird” side in the truest sense of the word.

As always, we’ve selected a few titles that we think might be of particular interest to you and sorted them by day of the week for our weekly preview – without claiming completeness. Here is the preview for the week of June 12-18, 2023.

Monday: Rest before the fight

Netflix has not yet announced any particularly promising titles for Monday. Before the fists fly the next day, you can finish your watchlist here.

Tuesday: tough FSK-18 action

Tuesday then offers you the ultra-brutal FSK-18 video game adaptation Mortal Kombat, which not only appealed to many fans of the template. So while the sequel Mortal Kombat 2 is in the works, you can now watch on Netflix as the defunct ex-MMA champion Cole Young (Lewis Tan) fights for domination of the Earth…

Wednesday: The real fight for our planet

That is a good indication for the series that follows on Wednesday. In Our planet II celebrated wildlife filmmaker David Attenborough takes a different look at the natural beauty of the earth. One focus is looking behind the secret of how and why animals migrate. But of course the focus is again on how the climate catastrophe threatens all living things on this planet…

Thursday: 5 new stories for an acclaimed sci-fi gem

Hardly any series manages to do it as impressively as Black mirror to tell in great little stories how technology is changing humanity. There will be a sixth season on Thursday with five new episodes that each function independently of each other and stand alone. If you’re a “Black Mirror” fan, you’ll be looking forward to restocking, so if you’re new to the series, you can easily get started with one of the new episodes. In either case, you can look forward to numerous stars such as Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara and Zazie Beetz. One of the new episodes was also staged by the German camerawoman (including “The Wire”) and director (including “Altered Carbon”) Uta Briesewitz.

Meanwhile, younger “Transformers” fans get the animated series Transformers: Earth Spark required. This introduces a new form of the titular robots born on Earth. But of course well-known figures such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee or Megatron are also part of the game.

Friday: Badass Hemsworth, weird Radcliffe

The big Netflix movie highlight of the week is Tyler Rake: Extraction 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed action hit Tyler Rake: Extraction. Played by Chris Hemsworth, the badass rescue specialist can’t recover for long after miraculously skipping death. Because he has to get a woman and her two children out of a Georgian prison and the clutches of her sadistic husband. He has a very personal motivation for his commitment…

It will also be available on Netflix shortly before its regular DVD and Blu-ray launch Strange: The Story of Al Yankovic give to stream. “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe plays cult musician Alfred Yankovic, who rises to fame as Weird Al, but must eventually rescue fellow Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood) from the clutches of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar in the humorous, not quite true until life biopic. Pop Parodist Weird Al Uses It To Make Dumb Musician Biopics – We Had Fun!

Saturday & Sunday: A quiet Netflix weekend

Netflix hasn’t announced any particularly exciting titles for the weekend in our opinion. That can always change in the short term, but you should be able to bring enough new material from the week anyway.
