Featuring brutal Batman & Superman lookalikes, James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” introduces DC’s Anti-Guardians

The Authority is a team of superheroes in the comics who actually come from a separate universe (the so-called Wildstorm universe). and only over time (and from time to time) was it integrated into the “regular” DC Comics universe. A 2021 comic title is something like “Superman And The Authority”. Here, an elderly Superman is assembling a new Authority team.

In any case, this shouldn’t be a direct template for “Superman: Legacy” as we’ll be seeing a young, idealistic Superman in the film. And it is unlikely that this is on the same wavelength as the Authority. Because James Gunn has already revealed that in the DCU, as in the first comic appearances, the Authority is supposed to be a superhero team that wants to save the world by any means necessary and also resorts to unscrupulous, ruthless methods.

Aside from both teams feeling called to protect the world and the galaxy respectively, The Authority is something like the antidote to the Guardians Of The Galaxy. Because at least since “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” Star-Lord, Rocket and Co. have left behind their dark past and usually act very heroic and conscientious.

The members of the Authority

The Authority consists of seven characters in James Gunn’s favorite comic book template (and thus probably in the planned movie): Apollo draws his powers from sunlight, can fly and is super strong and very reminiscent of Superman during the midnight is very reminiscent of Batman with his combat skills and tactical skills.
