The movie New Ocean’s 11, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is inspired by the masterpieces of a directorial legend

In 2001, a cast of superstars including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts made “Ocean’s 11” a huge success. The remake of “Frankie and his henchmen” resulted in two sequels and in 2018 the spin-off “Ocean’s 8”. A prequel will be filmed in France from the end of June 2023. As has long been known, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will star, while Jay Roach (“Bombshell”, “Austin Powers”) will direct. The latter now revealed some new details to the Associated Press.

After it was already known in the sixties that the new film would run, there is now more information about the story. The background of the story is the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco and a role played by a major shipping magnate and his yacht, whom Robbie and Gosling’s characters arguably target as a robbery victim.

Inspired by two Hitchcock classics

As Roach revealed, he and lead actress Robbie, who first came up with the idea for the new film, were heavily inspired by two classics from director legend Alfred Hitchcock.

one is “Above the roofs of Nice“where Cary Grant plays a notorious thief trying to prove he’s not behind another wave of jewel robberies, and meets the mysterious yet intriguing Grace Kelly.

The second is “Startling“ – also with Cary Grant, who, as an American secret agent, has to recruit an American of German descent (beautifully embodied by Ingrid Bergman) to get plans for a Nazi organization.

Love story, adventure and heist movie

Both role model films for the new title “Ocean’s” have in common that the focus is on a man and a woman who go on an adventure together, fall in love with each other, but are never quite sure whether they can trust each other. This is also the theme of the movie with Robbie and Gosling, as revealed by Roach. The tension comes from whether the two get together and whether they trust each other enough to act as a team. There was also some concern about seeing the two stars in another movie right after Barbie, but they’re one of those couples that you can watch over and over again.

The director teases that an “old-fashioned epic love story” and an “adventure movie” but disguised as a “heist movie”. There is still a small question mark in Roach’s statements. Incidentally, the director mentions in conversation with the , that there is not yet full agreement on the right budget for the film, which he says should be “a big, big cinema spectacle”. That should be clear soon if you really want to shoot this month.

So how does the prequel compare to “Ocean’s Eleven”?

Incidentally, it has not yet been revealed how the prequel is related to “Ocean’s Eleven” and Co. But we have a hunch. The two main characters may even become a couple and have a small child, whom they name Danny. After all, we know from Ocean’s 8 that Danny Ocean was born in 1963 – which fits very well for a prequel set in the 1960s (probably early 1960s to be exact).
