Do you have little space or do you not want to install a large (and expensive) sound system in your apartment? Do you always turn up the sound of your TV completely so that you can understand the much too soft dialogues in films? Then a compact soundbar is the solution for you. The Philips B8405/10 is currently available from Amazon for only 209.99 euros instead of 419.99 euros suggested retail price, so you save no less than 50 percent.
For just over 200 euros you get a powerful, clear sound with a maximum power of 240 W. Normal TV speakers cannot compete with that. Dialogues become clearer, sound effects more impressive and soundtracks more monumental. In addition to the sound, the stylish soundbar also has a number of practical features on board.
Philips B8405/10 Soundbar 2.1: packed with smart features
The Philips soundbar is especially nice in the home cinema. Virtual Dolby Atmos creates 3D surround sound. Soundbars with “real” Dolby Atmos generate the spatial sound via extra speakers, but usually cost well over 500 euros. Also practical: you integrate the soundbar in a multi-room setup using DTS Play-Fi. This way you can even put together an entire surround system later and easily connect it via the app.
The slim soundbar is easy to operate with a voice assistant. Alexa, Google Assistant and even Siri (via Apple AirPlay 2) are on board. You can also stream your favorite music directly via Spotify Connect or AirPlay 2.
The hi-fi manufacturer’s alternative
Audio specialist Denon has a pleasantly affordable entry-level soundbar with subwoofer in its portfolio, which you can currently get 26 percent cheaper on Amazon.
The Denon DHT-S517 also offers 3D sound with Dolby Atmos, a wireless subwoofer and music streaming via Bluetooth. Unlike the Philips soundbar, Denon generates the Dolby Atmos sound with additional built-in upfiring speakers, which fire the sound to the ceiling and thus create an impressive spatial sound through sound reflection. The Denon DHT-S517 is a 3.1.2 soundbar and has more to offer in terms of sound than the cheaper Philips. Smart functions such as voice control by Alexa and Co.
