The Philips OLED807 with 65 inches (164 centimeters) currently costs 1,783.17 euros on Amazon. Here you save 41 percent compared to the suggested retail price. Prime customers also benefit from free shipping.
According to Geizhals.de, the previous low was €1,762.67 in mid-February. So the current price is only slightly higher.
Spectacular image thanks to Ambilight
The biggest advantage of the 807 is the brightness of the OLED display. Here the Ambilight TV achieves peak values that can keep up with almost all competing models from last year. Noisy Hifi.de Few 4K TVs like the LG OLED G2 are even brighter than the Philips TV.
Another advantage is the support of the two HDR formats HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. Many other televisions can only play one format. Dolby Vision is the HDR standard of most streaming services such as Netflix. You will find HDR10+ mainly in Amazon Prime Video productions such as “The Rings of Power”.
4K TVs from LG and Sony support Dolby Vision, Samsung uses HDR10+ as the HDR format. With the Philips 807 you get both standards and enjoy both Netflix and Prime Video content in brilliant colors and high contrasts.
Which brings us to the Ambilight function of the Philips TV. There are LED strips on all four sides of the 807 at the back, illuminating the back wall in color in sync with the image on the OLED display. This creates a unique color background that atmospherically expands what is happening on screen.
120 Hz and HDMI 2.1 for fast gaming
Furthermore, the Philips TV has everything you need for your home cinema. In combination with two HDMI 2.1 connections and different game modes, the 120 Hz panel enables lag-free gaming with the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. The 4K TV supports high-quality 3D sound via Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The smart TV menu and voice control also do not give rise to criticism.
The TV menu, on the other hand, falls short of expectations. The settings are sometimes very hard to find in the nested menus. But that’s the only major criticism. If you’re looking for a needle in a haystack, you might be annoyed by the lack of Dolby Vision IQ support. The Philips TV does not adjust the images to the lighting conditions in the home cinema.
LG OLED G2: The high-end alternative to the Philips TV
A good alternative to the Philips 807 is the LG OLED G2. Last year’s top model from LG is currently available in a 65-inch version for 1,828.99 euros at Amazon*.
The G series is the non-plus ultra of the LG range and therefore offers many features. As mentioned, the G2 achieves an even higher peak brightness than the 807 and scores with an even better image thanks to the OLED Evo panel, which is especially noticeable in the home theater in daylight. The G2 also supports the HDR format Dolby Vision IQ, but HDR10 + is missing, as well as the atmospheric Ambilight.
