With “The Boogeyman” Rob Savage (“Host”) was able to prove that he is quite capable of staging Stephen King material in an atmospheric way. Even if the horror movie ultimately didn’t convince across the board, Savage has shown that he doesn’t shy away from the psychological aspect of King’s stories. The fact that Savage wants to bring another Stephen King novel to the big screen after this should therefore not be taken as a threat at all. But on the contrary.
As a filmmaker in the a podcast for Stephen King enthusiasts, said he wants to make The Langoliers into a movie: “It’s one of those movies that I told King I really wanted to do. After he saw ‘The Boogeyman,’ he emailed me and said, ‘We should work together again!’ And I immediately said, ‘I really want to adapt The Langoliers.’ And he loved it. But I think the rights are all somewhere else, so we’re trying to get them.”
These are the Langoliers
In “The Langoliers” it all starts with a night flight from Los Angeles to Boston. Here ten people wake up with a shock. All other passengers and crew are gone. When they try to make contact with the ground, they fail to connect. They land the plane and realize that nothing has changed per se, but it is as if the world is dead. There is no one until the survivors encounter monstrous creatures bent on destruction.
Already in 1995, “The Langoliers” was implemented in the form of a two-part television movie. At the time, “Chucky the Killer Doll” creator Tom Holland took the director’s chair. But the result was quite mixed. Even though the film adaptation of the short story has some fans today, it failed to reconcile the psychological depth and oppressive atmosphere of horror, not to mention that it also suffered from computer effects that were already outdated at the time. Therefore, it would be appropriate for Rob Savage to once again take up the subject in the right way.
