Hardware stores do not follow the rules for selling materials

Ironworks in the provinces Panama and West Panama do not conform to commercial information on quantities and measurements in some construction materials.

The Directorate for Consumer Protection and Defense of Market Competition (Acodeco) It has been discovered that most do not follow the commercial specifications of the number of bags of sand and stone equivalent to a cubic yard and the measurements of building blocks.

Out of 88 economic entities, 86 of them kept sand and stone in bags for sale, of which 20 met all checked aspects (23.26%), and 66 (76.74%) did not.

while 86 economic agents checked, 42 kept the required information in the consumer’s view, and 44 did not comply with this aspect.

Meanwhile, of the 42 that complied with the publication of the requested data, 27 of them (64.29%) passed the sand test satisfactorily, that is, the number of bags they published was equivalent to one cubic yard.

On the other hand, 15 (35.71%) did not meet the announced number of bags per cubic meter.

When checking the stone, 28 (66.67%) stores met the requirements, that is, the number of bags they advertised was equivalent to one cubic yard, and 14 (33.33%) did not meet the requirements.

Regarding the certification of concrete blocks, 91 lots were certified in 88 companies, of which 19 were in compliance with all verified aspects (20.88%), and 72 (79.12%) were not in compliance.

Acodeco confirmed that companies advertised to consumers the type of blocks they sell, only 43 (47.25%) lots were compliant with this aspect and 48 (52.75%) were non-compliant.

Of the stores that advertised the name commercial or dimensions dBlocks for sale: 47 (51.65%) lots complied with this aspect and 44 (48.35%) lots did not comply.

Among the checked requests, the following series results were obtained:

Shops that have a compressive strength test certificate available: 73 (80.22%) lots met this aspect, and 18 (19.78%) lots did not have a certificate.

Compressive strength test certificates are up to date: Of the 73 lots that had a certificate, 51 (69.86%) are valid, and 22 (30.14%) were found to be invalid.

As for the dimensions (width, height and length), of the 47 parcels that satisfied the maintenance of data necessary for verification, 33 (70.21%) complied with the dimensions of the blocks, and 14 (29.79%) entrepreneurs did not comply. with this aspect.
