Workers in Portugal can request sick leave for up to three days consecutive duration telematic and without going to the doctoras part of the labor reform package that comes into force this Monday.

Medical leave, which can be requested through the portal of the State Health System (SNS) or its telephone line with a statement from the worker himself, aims to reduce bureaucratic health care, and it is estimated that will save around 600,000 consultations per year.

up to twice a year

This request can be submitted at most twice a year and does not give the right to compensation, because this payment is made only after the fourth day of sick leave.

The labor reform that came into force this Monday foresees the extension of remote work to parents of children with developmental disabilities, chronic or oncological diseases, regardless of age.

In addition, the value of the costs arising from remote work must be specified in the employment contract. There will be a maximum of four renewals of temporary contracts, the value of overtime will increase, and severance pay will increase from 12 to 14 days per year worked.

Sanctions are also being tightened for companies and individuals who do not register their workers with social security within six months, including domestic workers.
