Air Europa pilots will start a strike this Monday, which will last May 2, 4 and 5 at all bases and work centers in Spain.

The Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (Sepla) announced the call on March 19 after warning of its intention to strike during May and June due to the blockade of negotiations of the V collective agreement.

Šepla accuses the company of “playing” with workers’ rights and of “masking” with proposals what represents the “real loss” of labor rights from the previous collective agreement.

Thus, the union condemns that the pilots of Air Europa “feel discriminated by the company” because they are the only group “affected by this way of acting by the company” and refuses to give way because it “would be irresponsible towards the future professional and staff of the pilot group”.

In addition, they allege that the airline’s executives “opted for confrontation over negotiation, threatening and disqualifying pilots instead of seeking a point of understanding.” Sepla appreciates their commitment to the future of the company, a problem they claim they have shown during the pandemic, and their “responsibility for social peace” by not calling a strike since 2011. But they warn that they “will not allow” management that “seeks to make money against users and workers”.
