35.5% of Spanish households could not face unforeseen expenses in the last year

The risk of poverty or exclusion in Galicia falls to 23.6% of the population, below the national average

35.5% of Spanish households could not face unforeseen expenses last year. This is the highest percentage since 2018 (35.9 percent), it is stated in Survey of living conditions (ECV) 2022, published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (AND NOT).

The agency believes that households can face unforeseen expenses when they have their own funds for it, that is, without resorting to loans or installment purchases to pay for usual expenses that have previously been settled in cash.

This is also revealed by research conducted while the war in Ukraine is already underway and inflation is on the rise 8.7% of households experienced the end of the month with “a lot of difficulties” in 2022a percentage one tenth lower than that of 2021 and the lowest since 2019.

INE also points out that the number of households that could not afford to go on vacation for at least a week in 2022 amounted to 33.5 percent, eight tenths more than in 2021.

According to the statistical agency, 13.2% of households admit that they are late with their payments when paying expenses related to the main residence or purchasing in installments in the 12 months before the survey.

Average income higher by 6%

The ECV for 2022 also includes how the average income per person has evolved, although in this case it refers to the year 2021.

They were located in 13,008 euros, which is 6% more than in 2020in which, due to the pandemic, the first drop in this indicator since 2013 was recorded.

Percentage of population at risk of poverty reached 20.4% in 2022, the lowest rate since 2013. For its part, the rate of being at risk of poverty or social exclusion fell by almost two points in 2022, to 26%, the lowest figure since 2014, when the streak began.

Four out of ten inhabitants of Galicia cannot afford a vacation

He 23.6% of the inhabitants of Galicia were at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2022, which is almost two percentage points less than a year ago (25.2%), the aforementioned research shows. This puts Galicia in a better position than the national average.

The average income per person in Galicia is 12,352 euros, below the Spanish average of 13,008 euros.

Among other data, almost four out of ten residents of Galicia cannot afford to go on vacation away from home for at least one week a year.

Except, almost three out of every ten inhabitants of Galicia do not have the capacity to face unforeseen costsas is the case with 35.5% of all Spaniards.

Also, a 9.4% of the inhabitants of Galicia claim to have delays in payments related to with main residence or in installment purchase, as is the case with 13.2% of Spaniards. 7% of Galicia’s population think they have “a lot of difficulty” making ends meet.

93.4% of Galicians are generally satisfied with the home they live in, surpassed only by Asturians (93.6%). The Spanish average is 88.1%.
