The strike coincides with the May 1 bridge and will affect all bases and work centers in Spain
The Spanish Union of Airline Pilots (Sepla) called. strike in Air Europe for the first five days of May in all bases and workplaces in Spain due to “unacceptable requests by managers regarding the transfer of legitimate employment rights of this group”.
This is what Sepla specified this Wednesday strike schedulewhich coincides with the May holiday bridge, after announcing yesterday the start of the procedure for its invitation to set dates in May and June, in response to Air Europa’s “zero interest” in reaching an agreement that resolves the conflict following mediation promoted by the Inter-Confederation Service for mediation and arbitration (SIMA) at the company’s request.
The measure corresponds to “ tensions and labor conflicts produced by the directors of Air Europaplaying with workers’ rights, masking with proposals what represents the real loss of labor rights acquired IV. collective agreement”, qualified the union in a statement.
The pilots, who condemn that yielding to company pressure would lead to worse working conditions and wages in the short and medium term, “they feel discriminated by the company”, as it is the only working group affected by the way the airline has acted in the various negotiations it has conducted for the wage revision.
For Seplo, it is “disheartening” to see how, in the last chance to avoid a strike mediated by SIMA, “airline managers decided to confront instead of negotiate, threatening and disqualifying pilots instead of seeking a point of understanding between the two sides, which was the wish of the members of the technical staff.
The organization recalled that the pilots showed their commitment to the future of the company, as seen in the ERTE during the pandemic, at a high personal cost for these experts. In addition, the pilots emphasize that they have shown their responsibility for social peace, as evidenced by the fact that the last call to strike was in 2011.
Seplo points out that the pilots will not allow the economic administration that “profits at all costs” to go against the users, raising air tickets by more than 54 percent last year, and arbitrary impositions and job cuts on workers.
