José González also requested an increase in funds to make this form of cultivation more sustainable in the Ourense region

Councilor from Rural environmentJosé González, took advantage of the meeting Drought table which takes place in Madrid and where he participated via telematics to request that VAT be an eligible cost in the national program modernization of irrigation. In this way, as the minister said, they could opt for European funds to cover taxes: «This IVE is not deductible for irrigators, so please have an acceptable cost in order to be subsidized from European funds».

At the same time, he added that considering the general context of rising prices experienced by the entire economy «It is necessary to expand the state budget intended for the modernization of two irrigated lands, sinalada o da Limia». The said budget is channeled through an agreement between irrigation communities and state public body SEIASA.

The minister explained that the initial distribution of the costs of the agreement between SEIASA and irrigators stipulates that the latter assumes 20% of the costs of material performance, «to which it is necessary to add 100% of the IVE supported by the specified execution; a cost which the irrigation communities involved cannot fully afford: of San Salvador de Sabucedo, lamas-ganades, Corno do Monte and High Limija». That is why he emphasized that “o feito de considerar o IVE as custo elixible suporia que puede subsidizar con European fundswhich significantly reduces the contributions of the two irrigators». This is the reason that justifies, he believes, the increase in funds for the modernization of irrigation in to the limit because the idea is to “adjust to the real cost and to revise the proposed financial scheme, in order to burden the irrigators as little as possible”. In addition, he conveyed that this increase in costs may end up reducing competitiveness Galician agricultural and food industrybecause it is harmful to irrigation communitiesbut also for consumers of products from those modernized irrigation.
