The vice president of the employer is in favor of harmonizing unemployment benefits with work
Vice president of the association CEO, Lawrence Love, this Monday came out in favor of abolishing public subsidies, more specifically unemployment benefits, for those who refuse a job with agreed working conditions and wages. “It is not logical” for a person to continue receiving assistance if he refused a job, added the president of the National Federation of Self-Employed Associations (ATA) during the presentation of the barometer created by that organization.
This idea was already initiated by the general secretary of the UGT, Pepe Alvarezand Amor said he “agrees”, although at the time he received rejection from the Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, and the General Secretary of the Labor Commissions, Unai Sordo.
According to the opinion of the vice-president of the employers’ association, “it is important” align the collection of this type of assistance with the performance of work, as is the case in the Nordic countries, something that would help many to enter the labor market, through, for example, part-time employment. Another consequence, according to Amor, is the reduction of the shadow economy because many people who receive certain assistance decide to work without a contract in order not to lose it.
On talks to reach a framework agreement for Collective bargaining, insisted that the CEO is willing to sit down to “talk” and reach a consensus, and for this reason he will put “all the meat on the table”, because “they are aware that wages must rise”, said Amor. “We have to seek that understanding between the two sides,” he said, immediately stressing the “importance” of not having political pressure or any kind. “If they let us work, there will be an agreement,” he said.
Employers and unions will hold – predictably this week – a new meeting with unions for a new agreement on employment and collective bargaining (AENC).
