Galician Ecoener continues to strengthen its leadership in renewable energy. And he does it with a project that is a turning point in itself. This Thursday, the group launched five new wind farms in San Sebastián de La Gomera, facilities that have a combined production capacity of 12 MW and which involved an investment of more than 17 million euros. In this way, Ecoener increases its leadership in the production of renewable energy in the Canary Islands.

The president of Ecoener, Luis de Valdivia, said during the inauguration ceremony of the parks that “today is a big day”: “We are very proud of this construction and logistical milestone, the result of the efforts of so many people and the contribution to Plan La Gomera 100% sustainable”.

The manager emphasized that the parts arrived directly by ship from Germany, which he described as a real “feat”, such as assembly in four months plus two for disconnecting the network connection. Likewise, De Validivia promised to continue contributing to the energy transition of the Canary Islands, where Ecoener has already invested more than 140 million euros in all its assets over the last 20 years.

The event, held in San Sebastián de La Gomera, was attended by the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres; together with the president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimir Curbel; except for the Minister for Ecological Transition, Combating Climate Change and Spatial Planning, José Antonio Valbuena. The Mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes; among other authorities and representatives of economic and social organizations on the island.

The parks of La Gomera are a milestone in the history of Ecoener, because they were built in just five months with considerable effort, considering the orographic and meteorological conditions of the area where they are located. The logistical effort involved in developing a piece of these characteristics in such a short time was also a challenge. A multidisciplinary team of 200 top experts worked in the construction process.

This asset, as explained by Ecoener, synthesizes the main axes of the company’s strategy: a firm commitment to renewable energy to reduce emissions, technological innovation with state-of-the-art equipment that improves energy efficiency and environmental protection. , and commitment to society and the local economy.

Environmental regeneration model

La Gomera Wind Farms also has a special environmental action consisting of an ambitious environmental regeneration and recovery program in collaboration with the Cabildo de La Gomera Nursery and the Association for Functional Diversity of La Gomera. In cooperation with these entities, the revegetation of more than 1,000 autochthonous trees and bushes, with a total area of 21,000 square meters, is being carried out. And for the implementation of this action, species such as tedera, balo and verode were used.

In addition, Ecoener explains, the wind turbines of wind farms are equipped with modern environmental protection systems that guarantee the protection of bird life. The new parks on La Gomera have the capacity to supply almost 11,000 homes with renewable energy and will prevent the emission of more than 23,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which is a significant contribution to the overall decarbonization of the Canary Islands, projected for 2040.
