Nova Pescanova will repay the loan of 150 million, which was approved in 2016 by the Spanish banks that took over the group (among them Sabadell, Caixabank and Santander) and which expires on March 23, with “all the normal conditions and full financial autonomy to undertake the business plan”, according to to what the fishing group communicated in a relevant event to investors on the Alternative Fixed Income Market (MARF) where it was listed.

Nueva Pescanova, based in Chapela (Pontevedra), received the mentioned loan in May 2016 of a syndicated nature (ie from several banks) to settle the obligations to its creditors, which it inherited from the old Pescanova, in bankruptcy of the year. 2013 when Fernández de Sousa, now convicted of his mismanagement, presided over fisheries.

The expiration of the contract and the return of the capital received is scheduled for March 23 and after that date “the company will fulfill its contractual obligation as usual”, continuing with the said return, according to the statement to MARF, in which it ensures that “Nueva Pescanova retains full financial autonomy to implement its business plan”he explained.

The fishing company owned by Abance (with 97 percent of the capital) announced itself before yesterday’s information that Sabadell and Santander banks refused to extend the maturity of the loan, “in view of the collapse of operating profit”.

Nueva Pescanova sources insisted on the economic autonomy of the company, which is progressing in the sale process that Abanca initiated more than a year ago.

Among the groups interested in the acquisition is a Canadian cook which just yesterday announced the takeover of the company Slade Gortonone of the largest distributors, importers and manufacturers of fresh and frozen seafood in the United States.

Cooke is one of the most active seafood production companies on the world market in recent years. In August 2022, it bought Australian salmon farming company Tassal and Belgian shrimp processor Morubel and is negotiating to buy part of Nueva Pescanova.
