Six out of ten Galician households have a person who receives a salary

This is the best figure since the outbreak of the crisis in 2008

According to data from salary study published this Friday by the Statistics Office of Galicia (IGE), collected by Europa Press.

This figure represents an improvement over 2020 of 0.8 percentage points and it would be necessary to go back to 2008 to find a higher figure. That year, when the world economic crisis broke out, 61.3% of Galician households had at least one person receiving a salary.

IGE explains that the frequency of households with someone salary in Galicia it slowly decreased from 2007 to 2013 and 2014, when it was below 55%.

In the next five years, it grew slightly. However, in 2020, the streak of growth was interrupted and there was a decline, but in 2021, growth recovered, although it has not yet reached the levels of 2007 (61.11%).

According to the type of household, households of the type of couple with children are the ones with the highest representation of wage earners (87.5%). At the other extreme are single households, in which almost 30% are wage earners.

Among other data, in 2021, 46.7% of Galician households had salary as their main source of income, followed by households that had some compensation as their main source (43%). For their part, households in which the main source of income is self-employment did not reach 9%.
