Los Cangilones, why should you visit this place?

An ideal place to visit this summer is Los Cangilones de Gualaca, in the province of Chiriquí. Bathing in its crystal clear water or perhaps staying on the river bank is the perfect remedy to relieve the heat and have a pleasant and leisurely time.

And that is that this natural health resort is the destination of dozens of people, not only from this area, but also domestic and foreign tourists.

There are two versions of how Los Cangilones de Gualaca was created, one is that it could have been the result of the eruptions of the Barú volcano, and the other theory is that the constant flow of water from the river Esti created cracks between the rocks.

It is believed that Los Cangilones owes its name to those vessels that were used earlier, which the Spanish brought as part of their culture.

Photographer and tour guide of Mar y Tierra Tours (@marytierratour), Didier Magallón, indicated that one of the main attractions of this agency is Tierras Altas and Los Cangilones de Gualaca.

Regarding this last place, he said that when people come to the river, they don’t want to leave, especially at noon when the sun and heat are at their greatest.

“The experience of swimming among the rocks is completely different, seeing it is one thing, but being among the rocks and looking up is a unique experience,” he added.

Panama has tourist wonders, and Los Cangilones is one of them.

For Magallón, Los Cangilones are gifts that nature does not give and that make tourists smile when they visit these places.

Los Cangilones is a quiet and safe place. Both children and adults can swim in its waters.

A place like this with these characteristics is worth advertising and visiting because it is for the whole family, he said.

From his point of view as a tour guide, Magallón believes that several aspects can be improved to boost tourism, especially during the summer.

For example, he mentioned that they could put up a structure, at least a plastic one, so that people would have the opportunity to change clothes after bathing in a more private way.

As for selling food, the guide believes that people should be given a temporary permit at the time when the river is the most crowded, as this would help the many tourists.

It is important to mention that the municipality of Gualaca charges $2 for limousines and $5 for buses to keep the place clean.

For the safety of swimmers, Magallón recommends taking the necessary precautions and always checking the places you will be, especially people who like to dive.
