Minera Panama workers met with the Government

Spokesman for Minera Panama workers, Nixia Oglilviethey explained that they could not talk to the staff from Maritime Administration of Panama (AMP)which has the most important answer for them.

However, he said Mici and Mitradel will open AMP to give a report on what the company needs to fulfill in order to reach a happy agreement and be able to open the port.

The spokesman indicated that the company has not submitted a request to suspend the contract or to lay off associates and added that until that happens, their jobs are safe.

He noted that two specific points are missing in order to reach a concrete agreement, the first is the issue of the expiration of the contract, and the second is the issue of amortization in case of depletion of the deposit.

For their part, representatives of Mitradel pointed out that it was unfortunate that Minera Panamá upset the workers because they did not want to sign the contract that had been previously agreed upon.

Zaritma Simon Mitradel’s advisor informed these representatives that to date there are no requests for the suspension of the work contracts of the mine’s employees.

One of the items discussed at the meeting was AMP’s decision to suspend copper concentrate shipments from January 26, 2023, based on a legal ruling.

With regard to this problem, the representatives of the Government pointed out that the operation of the port is carried out through the contract concluded by AMP and the company. In that contract there are duties and obligations that must be fulfilled, and at the moment there is a technical part that has not been fulfilled.

While the representatives My CI They pointed out that the export of copper concentrate is not currently covered by the contract, and the idea was to speed up the process and establish new agreed rules, and from there one could make a living from the export.
