He Cabinet Council approved the creation Multimodal dry channel for transshipment of goods of the Republic of Panama named Omar Torrijos Herrera.

According to the initiative, the goal is to modernize the logistics platform, simplify customs procedures and maintain competitiveness in the sector, in order to generate greater cargo mobility and increase efficiency as a country.

It was clarified that the Dry Channel consists of railways, roads, highways, international airports, free zones, special economic zones, ports and private companies authorized for international trade and border crossings that provide logistics services. as well as logistics customs warehouses made possible by the National Customs Administration.

for his part, Rodolfo Samuda, technical secretary of the Cabinet for Logistics He said that since 8.5 million containers that pass through the Panama Canal, 85% are transshipment goods, but due to draft limitations, the interoceanic waterway cannot handle the transit of normal cargo and the dry channel seeks to expand the primary area to guarantee this service.
