Attacking the fiscal deficit must be the first challenge

The private sector gathered in National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep) gave the presidential candidates his vision of the country in their hands with the elements it must contain in order to guarantee sustainable development until 2050.

In this plan, they worked on transversal components such as institutionality and management with focus implemented through state policies.

According to Felipe Ariel Rodríguez, one of the architects of Conep’s vision, the latest social explosion is an accumulation of not doing things that citizens expect, due to short-term plans, limited to the duration of each government.

“We present alternative economic engines, which are other mines, not necessarily them metallic and we call for the reflection of a proactive private sectorparticipate with this type of contribution,” said Rodríguez.

Which issues are addressed first?

Without hesitation, Rodríguez suggests that it must be heavy fiscal deficit caused by excessive public debt without efficiency in spending.

“We are one of the countries that the most invests per capita in education in the regionbut we have some of the worst results,” he said.’

strategic goals include institutional, education, health and economic development.

Another problem that needs to be attacked, according to the Conep spokesperson, whether the salary increase is in line with political commitments, “which bogs down our finances and doesn’t allow resources to address other issues like water.”

Last but not least It is important that Rodríguez mentioned national security.

“If we don’t take care of it, they will follow us foreign direct investment (FDI),” he stated.

The businessman reflected on what happened in November, when the street closures caused damage to the economy, food security and especially small businesses agriculture and tourism. We must not allow this to continue to happen, he said.

Antonio Fletcher, Past President Conep hopes that the candidates will take into account approaches offered by the private sector.

“They have every right to manage public affairs, but always with the concept and breadth of listening to the sector that suffers the most due to any deviation or error that may occur in public management issue,” Fletcher said.

More jobs

On Fletcher’s consideration, so that the private company to be a driver of job creation in the country again, the economic scenario should facilitate investment, streamline all processes and simplify with digitization to improve economic performance.

“We have to debureaucratize all systems; it has to be slogan so that the company can work in harmony with the rules in the best possible way”, said the businessman.

At present, informality passes private enterprise in the number of jobs created and it seems that this panorama will not change in the short term.

In this sense, Conep proposes modernization The Labor Law for connecting compensation schemes to the level of labor productivity.

The union proposes that minimum wages are not periodically adjusted in response to political pressures, but in economic reality, “because it negatively affects competitiveness in many sectors of the economy.”
