Engineer Alejandro Ferrer Solís, the new president of the Panama Chamber of Construction, and the Board of Directors that will follow him in the period of 2024, assumed his official duties.
Ferrer asked governments to plan and act immediately, especially with anything that does not allow for delay, such as measures to address the water crisis that affects business efficiency and competitiveness Panama Canal and also implement permanent solutions to ensure the supply of drinking water to the population.
“It is worth considering that the works to solve the insufficiency, in addition to fulfilling the purposes already indicated, considering the loss of economic benefits caused by the closure of the mining project, will replace the lost jobs and restore the parallel economy, on the occasion of the productive activities that will be developed during the execution of these new works,” said Ferrer Solís.
Although the success of the economy will be limited by the lack of funds to finance new public works, the high level of indebtedness that limits the possibility of resorting to new sources of development credit, the new Government must seek timely solutions and identify the drivers of strength that allow the country’s economy to rebuild, as well as the improvement of institutionality and competitiveness , He said.
According to Ferrer, Capac must responsibly fulfill “always a proactive and dominant role”.
He also called on all voters, regarding the civic commitment to democracy, to vote in a responsible and informed mannerleaving aside particular interests and having as a fundamental purpose the election of those who have the capacity and commitment to respond to the best interests of the nation.
He reminded that he had set priorities to which he would pay special attention during his reign. He pledged to continue the efforts made by former President Allen to achieve compliance with the obligations that various government bodies have to Capac member contractors.
“We will strive to achieve transparency and respect the principle of free competition in the procedures for selecting contractors for the execution of public works,” he pointed out.
In order to increase the qualification of the workforce, Ferrer indicated that he would promote the reinforcement and continuing education program developed by Capac. Through the Construction Industry Training Institute (ICIC), this initiative will provide knowledge that will improve the productivity of human resources in project execution.
For his part, Allen identified the aspects he was dealing with in 2022 and 2023, years in which he had to lead amid difficult situations for the industry and the country, which included greater efforts to achieve the goals set before his election.
