CBS: Dutch people shop online a little less often than during the Corona crisis
The Dutch shopped online a little less frequently in the second quarter than in the same period last year. According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), this could be due to the fact that, in contrast to the previous year, no corona measures were in force.
Overall, 74 percent of Dutch people aged 12 and over said they bought something online between May and July, which corresponds to approximately 11.2 million people. Last year it was 77 percent during this period. Because people were more at home during the Corona crisis last year, people were more likely to have made online purchases, CBS suspects.
Clothing, shoes and accessories such as bags and jewelry are mainly sold online, but less frequently than in the previous year. Fewer online meals were ordered during the measurement period this year than in the same period in 2021.
Cinema and concert tickets
More digital services and products were sold online this year, such as cinema or concert tickets. According to the statistical office, this is also due to the end of the Corona crisis. Last year there were still measures for the cultural sector. 8 percent of the Dutch stated that they had bought a ticket for an event online. This year, that percentage is 34 percent.
Most people only shopped in Dutch webshops. Statistics Netherlands finds that it is mainly 25-45 year olds who shop online: 88 percent of this group bought something online this year. For example, 34 percent of people over the age of 75 have bought something online.
