Opening the streets is not a service, it is respect for the Constitution

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) he pointed out that when parents, manufacturers, businessmen, civil society associations, experts and numerous other citizens ask the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizoto take action for the re-establishment of free transit, they are not asking for a favor, but demanding that the National Government fulfill the responsibility expressly laid down in the Constitution.

The union stated Article 17corresponds Chapter of fundamental guaranteeswhere the Constitution indicates that “The authorities are established to protect the life, honor and property of citizens wherever they are and foreigners under their jurisdiction, ensure the effectiveness of individual and social rights and duties, and respect and enforce the Constitution and the Law.”

According to the CCIAP, the Constitution also clearly establishes the responsibility of the authorities for failure to fulfill the duties specified in the Marga Charter.

So they ask, what else does the president and his government team need to happen for Panamanians to get our freedoms back? Aren’t the reported deaths due to the inability to move due to blockades or closures or the hundreds of thousands of missed medical appointments enough?

For businessmen, it is unacceptable for the People’s Government to sit down and see how 40 thousand boys and girls miss the school year. Is it necessary for more Panamanians to lose their jobs, for more companies to go bankrupt, and for thousands of other entrepreneurs to see their dreams dashed by the lack of government to restore public order? Will it be your legacy?

They also wonder if the President of the Republic and state ministers should see more pain and helplessness on the faces of thousands of agricultural producers who watch the annual work rot in trucks that cannot reach the market.?.

“No, the answer is that we don’t need to see any more of that. What we need is for the President of the Republic to honor what he promised during his oath and to instruct his Minister of Security and his Minister in the Government to ensure respect for the Constitution! “The population is not looking for a service, they are looking for the fulfillment of responsibilities!”, say the union.

CCAIP asked to stop the political calculations and make things happen because things are not happening: Every day chaos destroys the present and future of millions of citizens, especially the future of young people and children.

“This inaction and disregard for sacred constitutional duties is even more obvious when we see that those who are directly responsible for the closures across the country are a handful of irresponsible people with a clear political and anti-democratic agenda,” they claim.

The union concludes that there is no time to waste. Citizens’ patience has come to an end: opening the streets is not a favor, it is your constitutional responsibility and as such you must fulfill it or else face the consequences for your legal failure, or worse, settle for leaving a dark legacy in national history.
