The new state budget will have a smaller amount

Minister of Economy and Finance (MPEG), Hector Alexander confirmed this Monday that the new state budget will be presented.

According to the head of the MEF, the change in the amount is due to the intense days of protests taking place in the country.

“Given the conditions and how our country has changed, we are talking about Fr a budget that will have a smaller amount than what we presented for consideration in the National Assembly,” Aleksandar said at the press conference.

The official specified that at the moment they are evaluating different scenarios regarding the configuration of the new budget.

“It is not an easy task, but we do it with a team that works until the weekend. “We put a lot of time and analysis into it,” he added.

Alexander specified that when they receive the new budget, they will submit it to the Council of Government for consideration.

A few weeks ago, the minister presented a budget of 32.754 million dollars for the fiscal year 2024.

The increase was the largest in the state budget in recent years, s an additional 5.1 billion. For the year 2023, Panama had a budget of 27,579.4 million dollars.

This figure caused a barrage of criticism from different sectors of society.

His approval did not materialize as demonstrations over the mining contract began in the last weeks of October.
