Panama, undefeated against Jamaica en route to Gold Cup W 2024

Today at 18:00 behind closed doors at the Rommel Fernández Stadium, the women’s national team of Panama welcomes Jamaica in the first match of Group B, in the qualifiers on the way to the W Gold Cup 2024.

Panama cannot afford to give up points, they have only three units in Group B, the same as Guatemala, while Jamaica is making its debut in the qualifiers.

“You can’t give anything away,” coach Ignacio “Nacho” Quintana said of Panama’s game against the Jamaicans.

Jamaica will face Panama with an alternate team, but Mexico’s Panama coach is unsure.

Quintana expressed that apart from the fact that Jamaica will not have their main figures who were at the 2023 World Cup Australia and New Zealand, he does not expect an “easy game” against the Caribbean nations.

Due to administrative problems, non-payment of players, there will be no players in the Jamaican national team who were at the women’s world championship.

“It’s not a simple team,” Quintana answered a question from the Jamaican alternative team and explained that his rival has players playing in Europe and will try to convince the coaching staff and the current management that they can do the job.

Panama is playing at home and is forced to win, “it is clear to us that these three points are very important”, reiterated Quintana, who added that “Panama cannot give anything” and that the Red Femenina need a win to keep their hopes of being able to reach the Golden Cup 2024 W.

In Quintana’s opinion, the Jamaican team, apart from the administrative problems it has, has individual players who can define every situation in a match, therefore they cannot be trusted.

The match between Panama and Jamaica was supposed to be played at the Penonomé University Stadium, but due to the social situation in the country, it will be held behind closed doors at the Rommel Fernández Stadium.
