The loan was approved to strengthen the supply of medicines

An additional loan of $26,354,731.00 was approved this Monday by the Cabinet Council with the purpose of increasing costs and fulfilling obligations for the supply of medicines in the 16 health regions of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) for the months from September to December this year.

Funds from the state budget for 2023 are aimed at ensuring outpatient hemodialysis services for patients with chronic kidney failure and fulfilling contractual obligations for computer services for results from clinical laboratories and blood banks.

More than $1.9 million is allocated for outpatient hemodialysis treatment services; and $68,000 to pay for services provided by staff health to patients with this disease in different hospitals run by Minsa.

In addition, the Council of Ministers approved inn a $19 million loan agreement to finance the Center for Agricultural Research and Production in a Controlled Environment (CIPAC), a project implemented by the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt).

This project goes hand in hand with the national agri-food policy, which is based on the development of technology to support the promotion of the agricultural sector and seeks to help universities improve supply chains and will generate agro-ecological solutions in the country.

CIPAC would have three regional headquarters, in Tocumen, Azuero (Guararé) and Chiriquí (David). Construction of the crèche building would begin this year.

Controlled environment production allows agricultural production to be improved and protected from external elements using technologies to control soil, water, climate, nutrition and temperature.

This reduces the presence of pests, fungi, bacteria, nematodes, among others Less use of pesticides and other agrochemicals is required.
