They approve the import of 80 thousand quintals of onions

The Agricultural and food chain of potatoes and onions approved the import 80 thousand quintals of onionspublished the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).

It is expected that 20 thousand quintals arrive in October, HRK 35 thousand in November i HRK 25 thousand quintal for December.

As for the planting of onions, it was reported that there are currently some Planted 353.71 ha by 206 producers from 992 hectares programmed by 606 producers.
During the harvest, it was announced that 127 producers reported 174.64 hectares, achieving a production of 105,128.00 quintals.

As for potatoes, there are some Planted 446.60 ha by 273 producers from 900 programmed hectares. 218.41 hectares were reported in harvest by 108 producers with yields of 500 quintals per hectare, giving a production of 109,205 quintals.

Deputy Minister of MIDA, Alexis Pinedahe participated in a regular meeting where he pointed out the importance of these chains because decisions are made in a timely manner and consensus is reached through dialogue in order to guarantee food safety and social peace.

Pineda praised the time they devote to these chain meetings where important decisions are made for the production and supply of these items that are key to the diet of Panamanians and key to agricultural production.

He reiterated his support MEASURE in all the efforts they make, in favor of national production.

This commission consists of, among others, producers, traders, consumers, agro-industrialists and distributors of agricultural inputs.
