Tourist arrivals and stays in Panama are increasing

Chamber of Commerce of Panama announced a significant increase in the arrival and stay of tourists in the country, which represents an important turning point for the domestic tourism industry.

According to the report of the Chamber of Commerce, there was a significant increase in trips from priority markets, as well as a significant increase in the length of stay of tourists in Panama.

Nine priority release markets, which include the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, Spain, France and Germany, achieved the highest number of tourist arrivals by air, reaching an impressive 58.7% of the total, compared to 41.3% in other markets.

The business association noted that Panama’s international tourism promotion had an estimated economic impact of $902 million during the first half of 2023.

A key indicator of the success of the tourism industry is the length of stay of tourists from priority markets, which increased from 8 to 10.9 days.
In addition, the numbers related to business tourism are also optimistic, which further strengthens the position of Panama as an attractive destination for visitors.

According to the Agency for Tourism, in the period from January to April 2023, 98% of the tourist levels recorded in 2019 were restored. which indicates a significant recovery of tourism.

In particular, the publishing markets that showed the best performance were the United States of America and Argentina, even surpassing the values ​​achieved in 2019.

Based on current behavior, PROMTUR (Tourist Promoter of Panama) estimates a 105% recovery in the arrival of tourists at the end of 2023 compared to 2019, considering all points of entry into the country.

These data indicate an encouraging outlook for the tourism industry in Panama, which is showing its ability to adapt and resist previous challenges, such as the pandemic, and is positioning itself as a destination of choice for travelers from around the world.
