The increase in employment does not reach this group

Entrepreneurship has stalled, pulled back by the environment of economic uncertainty in which the country finds itself. The month of June, which has barely left weak increase in self-employments, will go down in history as the worst in the last decade, surpassed only in 2012, when Spain was completely immersed in the real estate bubble crisis. But even more alarming are the data that appear if we go back a year. The strong employment growth recorded so far in these first months of the year does not reach this group. On the contrary, they continue to suffer from the difficulties they had during the pandemic, and are now adding to this the price and supply crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the increase in financing costs due to rising interest rates. So, while more than half a million jobs have been added in the last year, since June 2022, about a hundred self-employed people have been lost who could not face this escalation of costs. Namely, 99 fewer self-employed workers were registered and their number is u 3,338,296it is stated in the report published by ATA this Thursday with data on the last day of the month.

The vast majority of autonomous communities recorded a decline in self-employment: eleven, while only six gained branches in RETA. At the head of this loss of the self-employed are Castilla y León, which has 3,003 fewer entrepreneurs than in 2022; Basque Country, with a cut of 1,920; and Galicia, with 1,725 less. These three regions far exceed the hundred self-employed workers left on the road nationally when multiplied by more than 17. The biggest declines in relative values occurred in the autonomous city of Ceuta (-4.5%), La Rioja (-2% ) and Asturias (-1.8%).
