Costa Rica will shut down to avoid disaster

The Costa Rican team will begin their Concacaf Gold Cup stay today when they face Martinique, a game that presents the Ticos with an opportunity to avoid their worst performance in the tournament’s history.

The commitment will take place at the Red Bull Arena, in New Jersey (USA), and will present two teams that will fight for the second ticket to the quarterfinals in Group C, since the first one has already been secured by Panama by winning the first two commitments.

To qualify, Costa Rica only needs to beat Martinique and El Salvador not defeat Panama, because if it did, the tiebreak criteria would enter the table. Only once did Costa Rica get out of the group stage at the Gold Cup and that was in 1998 when they played in groups of 3 teams and only the first place went on. The Costa Ricans were second in the group.
