The decrease in the CPI is a consequence of lower fuel prices and lower price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The National Institute of Statistics confirmed on Tuesday that consumer price index (CPI) in May, it was 3.2% on an annual level, nine tenths lower than the rate recorded in April, due to lower fuel prices and lower price increases for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Of the nine-tenths reduction in the general rate inflationsix tenths is the result of a drop of 3.7% in the transport group due to fuel reduction, while another two tenths is caused by the food group, whose growth is moderate at 12% on an annual level, almost one point less than the previous month.

Food inflation has returned to the level of a year ago thanks to the decline in the prices of milk, cheese and eggs, as well as the lower price of fish and shellfish and the stability of bread and cereals.
