France’s Engie buys a portfolio of 182 renewable megawatts in the Galician community and in Andalusia
Galician renewable energy company Greenalia has sold a portfolio of 182 megawatts of wind farms and photovoltaic projects in Galicia and Andalusia to French energy company Engie. The companies did not specify the amount of business or the distribution of assets in each autonomous community.
Engie reported that the projects are in the development phase and are expected to start operating during 2025. This company will be in charge of their development, operation and maintenance. The purchase represents Engie’s entry into the Galician renewable energy business.
Engie plans to increase its global renewable capacity by an average of four gigawatts per year over the period 2022-2025, and Spain will be a key player in achieving this goal.
In Spain, it already has an installed capacity of 1,600 megawatts: 1,400 wind power plants, 136 photovoltaic and 65 hydropower plants.
In a press release sent by Engie, Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of that company in Spain, states that “our goal is to promote and be a benchmark in the energy transition in Spain, and this new acquisition is undoubtedly aligned with that purpose. . This portfolio quality projects that will contribute to the achievement of our ambitious goals in the country. In addition, it means Engie’s entry into the renewable energy market in Galicia, a region with great potential in terms of renewable energy and which enhances the geographical diversification of our portfolio”.
Manuel García, CEO of Greenalia, explains that “this operation is part of the company’s asset rotation plan. The funds obtained from this move will be used to accelerate and consolidate the development of Greenalia’s business plan.”
