Awards incident: France's Justine Triet refuses to accept Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival

The first woman to win the top prize at Cannes was Jane Campion in 1993 for The Piano and the second was Julia Ducourtnot for Titan in 2021. The Cannes 2023 winner gave an emotional speech on stage criticizing the French government and Emmanuel Macron.

Justine condemned the president for suppressing protests after the pension reform. The director expressed her belief that similar suppression will soon affect other areas, including the world of cinema.

After giving an emotional speech, Justine left the stage without accepting her award. Jane Fonda, who named the winner, tried to remind her of the award. However, the artist did not seem to hear anything around him. Then Jane threw a paper certificate at her back, but even then the winner didn’t react. Justine was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice anything at all.

At the center of the plot of “Trajectory of the Fall” is the story of the German writer Sandra. Her French husband was found dead after falling off a cliff. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether it was a suicide. The couple’s blind son becomes the only witness and Sandra is the main suspect.
