The bride refused the train: revealed the secret dress of Kate Middleton at the wedding with Prince William

The historic royal wedding took place on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London. All eyes were on Kate Middleton as she walked down the aisle to meet Prince William. The bride of the heir to the British throne was dressed in a stunning Alexander McQueen dress, which was created especially for her by the creative designer of the luxury brand Sarah Burton.

With a satin bodice, lace sleeves, little side padding and a long train, the ivory dress inspired a generation of brides-to-be. The bodice was hand sewn by the world’s best seamstresses at the Royal School of Needlework using the craftsmanship of carrickmacross, a technique that dates back to the 19th century.

But there was another wedding dress – and only a few hundred people saw it. After the wedding, 300 guests were invited to a private reception and party at Buckingham Palace presided over by King Charles III. (then Prince Charles). In the tradition of royal brides, Kate changed into a second dress by the same British brand, Alexander McQueen, also designed for her by Sarah Burton.

The bride’s second outfit was white satin with a diamond-embroidered detail around the waist. Unlike the gowns worn during the ceremony, the evening gowns did not have a train, allowing Kate and William to dance the night away. The bride completed the look with a white angora bolero and let her hair down, which was tied up in an intricate updo and adorned with a tiara during the official ceremony. For the second picture, the future Princess of Wales went without a veil, reports the Daily Mail.

Kate wasn’t the only one who decided to change her outfit for the evening. Prince William changed into black tie, while Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton swapped her famous white bridesmaid outfit for a long sleeveless emerald green dress by designer Alice Temperley, embellished with jewels down the front and glittering silver pumps by Aruna Seth. The guests had fun at the wedding reception until three in the morning.
