A famous theater and film actor died today in the northern metropolis, the Tovstonogov Great Drama Theater informed about the tragedy, to which Gennady Petrovich dedicated more than 50 years of his busy creative life. “This is very sad news for our theater and we express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gennady Petrovich, to everyone who knew and loved him,” the BDT press service said.

In recent years, Bogachev suffered from a serious illness, but he did not leave work and went on stage. A portrait of the artist was placed in the theater hall, colleagues mourn Gennady Petrovich and carry flowers to an improvised memorial.

The range of acting talent allowed him to play in comedies, dramas, farcical productions. During half a century of service in the Great Drama Theater, the actor played more than fifty roles. Until the last days, he went on stage in Andrei Moguchi’s play “The Governor”. The funeral ceremony will be held in the walls of BDT, the date will be announced later.

The winner of Russia’s highest theater prize “The Golden Mask” was able to be realized in the cinema. In his baggage there are about thirty bright and memorable roles in films and TV shows. Bogachev embodied on the screen the waiter Dim in the movie “Holiday in September” and Stamford in the series “Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson”. Gennady Petrovich played in “National Security Agent”, “Master and Margarita”. His last film venture was “Simple Things” (2006). The performers of the main roles in it, Leonid Bronevoy and Sergey Puskepalis, are also no longer alive.

In addition, the People’s Artist of Russia was a sought-after voice actor – Richard Gere, Robert De Niro, Mel Gibson and other Hollywood stars spoke in his voice at the Russian box office. The artist himself modestly said that he “starred in several films”, but he still considers the theater to be the main thing in his life. Bogachev is the uncle of actress Alice Bogart.
