The Olympic champion is in the intensive care unit at Kommunarka for the fourth month. The treating doctors assured that the most difficult thing for Kostomarov is behind us, and he is confidently on the mend. Tatyana Navka spoke about the state of the athlete.

“Roman is improving and we are very happy about it! – said the skater. – Just recently, on April 13, he personally called me and congratulated me on my birthday. Thank God, as before, he spoke with humor (I could feel it) and most of all, there was optimism in his voice. Roman wished me, as always, of course, health, happiness, and most of all now to appreciate this life, every day that I live!”

The forty-six-year-old skater is being helped to fight for his life by his wife Oksana Domnina. The doctors only let her see the patient for three months. In April, the daughter and son began visiting their father in the hospital.

“Roman has someone and something to live for in order to overcome all these difficulties that befell his fate,” Dmitry Peskov’s wife assured. – Next to him is his family, children, parents and, of course, an incredibly strong, supportive wife – all this is very important to him now. And then there are his fans, the whole country, who are now worried about him.”

After doctors brought Kostomarov out of a coma, he was depressed for some time. And yet, with the help of his wife and a psychologist, the athlete managed to restore his mental health.

“He is a young man and the most important thing is that he has not lost his former bravery,” said Roman’s partner, with whom he won the Olympics in 2006. “He believes, and we all believe, that he will please us with his selfless desire to live and move forward. Thank God Rom is alive and recovering, already mentally healthy. Well, the rest is a matter of time.

Kostomarov is already rushing home. But the doctors do not allow him to leave the intensive care unit yet. A hospital source explained why this happened.

“The fact is that he is not in the intensive care unit because of the amputation, but because of other accompanying diseases. Accordingly, these other diseases must first be dealt with by doctors to the end. Amputation is a consequence of these diseases. Roman had COVID, severe pneumonia, stroke, sepsis… Every person’s stump heals differently after amputation. If all is well, the stitches are usually removed 14-15 days after the amputation. That is if the wound is healing calmly. Kostomarov is still in the healing stage, so he underwent several small surgeries on the stump, “explained the MK informant.
