When the rapper learned that the fan dreams of meeting him more than anything, he secretly came to Gage and spent about an hour with the young man. Later, his relatives thanked the rapper for brightening Gage’s final hours. The next day, Gage was gone.

In October 2009, before a concert in Tampa, Metallica met 85-year-old fan Margaret Prieb. The musicians learned about their fan from the local newspaper: an elderly lady told journalists how heavy music calms her down. A year earlier, Margaret was battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, listening to Metallica songs at night, distracted from her anxious thoughts.

Without hesitation, the band members invited Margaret backstage before the concert. Each of the band members spent some time with her, and at the end of the meeting, the musicians signed Margaret’s album Death Magnetic. “They turned out exactly as I imagined them, very good,” said a fan after the meeting.
