Curls and dolls: what the queen of detectives Agatha Christie looked like in her childhood

During her lifetime, Agatha Christie published over 60 detective novels, 6 psychological novels and 19 collections of short stories. Her books have sold more than 4 billion copies and been translated into more than 100 languages!

The twisted plots of the writer’s works excited the minds of readers of different generations. Yes, and in real life Christie had a riveting detective story – when her first husband told her he was leaving for another, Agatha… disappeared! The famous writer was wanted by the whole country, and at that time she registered at the hotel in the name of her husband’s new lover and left terrifying evidence – for example, she left the car and left a fur coat in it.

But what preceded these events in Christie’s life? What was her childhood like?

The future writer was born on September 15, 1890 in the seaside resort of Torquay in the southwest of England and became the third child in the family. She had a sister Margaret, also called “Madge”, and a brother Louis.

The girl was educated at home and taught herself to read at the age of five. Agatha was very inquisitive, but she was no stranger to the usual childish pranks. She loved animals, playing with dolls and making up imaginary friends to share secrets with.

A developed imagination generally distinguished the future writer. Even as a child, she wrote a gripping story about the struggle for inheritance between sisters: “the noble Lady Madge” and the “bloodthirsty Lady Agatha”. And although Agáta tried a few more professions as an adult, she eventually returned to her profession, which was manifested already in childhood – writing. We are all happy!
