It’s not time to follow in mom’s footsteps: what does Yasmine Gauri’s daughter look like – the most “forgotten” supermodel of the 90’s stars.

Yasmin was born in Montreal, Canada to a Pakistani father and a German mother. The girl did not think about the career of a model, but fate found her anyway. When she was 17, she worked part-time at McDonald’s. One day, a model scout came to have a bite to eat and immediately noticed a bland girl behind the cash register and offered her cooperation with the agency. Although Yasmin’s religious father (and was an imam) protested against it, the girl decided to take a chance. In her native Canada, Yasmin did not achieve much success due to her look, which local brands considered “too ethnic”, but there was a demand for the type abroad.

Soon Gauri conquered the main capital of fashion – Paris. She became the first successful South Asian model in the industry: the first to appear in famous luxury campaigns and the first on the cover of Vogue, paving the way for other South Asian girls to the fashion Olympus.

Her walks on stage were unforgettable – Yasmin’s energetic walk became her trademark and the highlight of every show. And the most important brands could not do without it: Chanel, Lanvin, Versace, Dior, Azzedine Alaïa and others. She also starred in Elton John’s video for the song Sacrifice.

According to rumors, Yasmine also turned the head of the future King of Spain Philip VI. and had a short-lived romance after meeting at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

But suddenly, at the peak of fame and at the peak of the supermodel era, Gauri decides to end her career. In 1996, she decided at the last minute not to appear at the Yves Saint Laurent show, and in 1997 she officially confirmed rumors of her retirement from the industry.

The decision was related to the personal life of the model – from 1996 she started dating lawyer Ralph Bernstein, and in 1997 they got married. Yasmin decided to focus on family life, leaving behind the eternal flights from one fashion week to the next and noisy glamorous parties where sparkling water flowed until morning.

Together with Ralph, she settled in New York, the couple had two children: son Victor and daughter Maya.

Daughter Yasmin has grown up like her, but she is not yet going to follow in her mother’s footsteps – she wants to be a poet. Maya graduated summa cum laude from Columbia College and is currently studying at Sarah Lawrence College working on her MA in Poetry.

Gauri has hardly come out in recent years and has not accepted offers to return to the stage. Although privately with his former colleagues, he occasionally meets for a cup of coffee.

Today she is 52 years old and the ex-model enjoys a quiet life. Gauri is interested in architecture and tries her hand at designing. And the old days are only reminded of archival photos on her social networks, which Yasmin regularly publishes to the delight of her fans.
