Prince William’s wife accompanied him to an important public event. Kate Middleton wore a bright red coat from her favorite Alexander McQueen brand, her look was completed with a black midi dress, soft suede heeled boots and a small handbag.

An elegant accent was brought by a small black hat with a bow and feathers. Fashion experts immediately noted that a very similar accessory was worn by the wife of Prince Harry during her life in the royal family. Meghan Markle paired a simple black feathered hat with her monochrome outfit in 2018. Notably, this was one of the few appearances of the Duchess of Sussex alongside other members of the monarchy.

“Everyone noticed! The smartest and rightly told me that the hat Kate Middleton wore to the St David’s Day parade is strikingly similar to the one Meghan Markle wore for Christmas 2018,” said stylist Miranda Holder.

Kate wore a hat designed by London hairdresser Juliette Botterill. It is a box model, decorated with a bow and two black feathers. Juliette creates her hats in a studio in Wimbledon and offers a ‘bespoke service where designs can be adapted to complement specific outfits. The Princess of Wales accessory is a bespoke teardrop version worth £600.

The former American actress wore an Avon Golding hat to the Christmas service at Sandringham four years ago. Avon is a London-based hat company of Anglo-Indian origin. Her hats have been worn by Dita Von Teese, Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga and Priyanka Chopra. Meghan opted for the Vika model, which cost £420.

Miranda recalled the words of the Duchess of Sussex that during her life in the palace she was forced to choose clothes in black, white or camel, so as not to overshadow other representatives of the monarchy.

“It’s strange to me that Meghan wore this hat when she was in the phase of blending in with the monarchy and didn’t want to compete with the rest of the family, to stand out in any way. In other words, she specifically chose an accessory that was not very memorable,” the stylist is quoted as saying by Express.

This observation brought the expert back to the appearance of the Princess of Wales and her last public appearances. “Kate is definitely elegant and flawless, but I find her look a bit uninteresting. I think it’s totally possible to look sophisticated and regal and still keep us up to date with fashion trends. So even though I absolutely adore Kate, at this point I feel like she could be better,” Holder added.
