Blood poisoning, secondary meningitis due to sepsis: Roman Kostomarov's condition has become extremely serious

The athlete is fighting for his life in the capital “Kommunarce”. Doctors today assessed his condition as unstable and extremely serious. Kostomarov developed meningitis secondary to sepsis.

“Doctors have not yet been able to stop the blood poisoning. The Olympic champion is on a ventilator in medical sleep, “the Mash Telegram channel reported.

It was known that a quarter of the brain was affected by Taťana Navka’s ex-partner – bleeding and hematoma in the frontal lobe. Doctors believe that the infection from the otitis may have traveled from the ears to the brain and caused complications.

“Otitis can cause otogenic brain damage. Since this is a critical process, thrombosis of cerebral vessels may occur, causing bleeding. So judging by the available information, Roman Kostomarov was overtaken by a combination of two problems. This is a very difficult treatment. Most often, unfortunately, the prognosis is unfavorable, ”explained Andrey Osipov, an honored doctor of Russia, to the Podmoskovye Segodnya publication.

A skater in the intensive care unit may have atherosclerosis, said neurologist Rustem Gayfutdinov, associate professor of the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Kazan State Medical University. The doctor emphasized that the presence of gangrene testified to Roman’s serious condition.

“Atherosclerotic plaque is not dangerous.” He’s still not young, he’s not 18, he’s 46. If it is part of a severe course of pneumonia, it is of course a serious complication that requires special types of treatment. Let’s hope he gets out,” the doctor quoted 360 as saying.

Roman Kostomarov is fighting for his life

Roman was hospitalized on January 10 with severe pneumonia. In early February, due to complications, his legs and later his fingers were amputated. Kostomarov cannot breathe on his own, so he had to be re-connected to a ventilator (artificial lung ventilation).

The best Russian doctors are fighting for the athlete’s life. The team of specialists is led by Kommunarka’s chief physician Denis Protsenko. He noted that Kostomarov had “minimal chances of survival” after being admitted to the clinic. Today, doctors assured that they were able to quickly respond to the problem with the cerebral vessels of the skater.
