Small and bold: what the dwarf actors who conquered Hollywood look like

Despite their small stature, they will definitely not go unnoticed!

Peter Dinklage

He is perhaps the most famous dwarf actor today. His role as Tyrion Lannister in the TV series Game of Thrones brought him worldwide fame, for which he received four Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. By the way, Dinklage became the first dwarf to be nominated for several major film awards at once. His height is 135 centimeters.

Peter made his film debut in the mid-1990s, starting with arthouse films and then making his way to Hollywood. He starred with Sidney Lumet in the movie “Find Me Guilty”, starred in the blockbuster “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, played the role of the red dwarf in the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”. And Dinklage regularly plays in the theater, including participation in classic productions by Chekhov and other authors. This again proves that he is a talented and versatile actor.

Vladimir Fedorov

The viewer knows this actor well, because he played episodic roles in popular and popular Soviet and Russian films: “Twelve chairs”, “Kin-dza-dza!”, “House of Fools”. It was Fedorov, whose height was 130 centimeters, who played the role of the creature in Heart of a Dog, before the character turned into a man and became Sharikov played by Vladimir Tolokonnikov.

But Vladimir did not plan to become an actor at all: in 1964 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Engineering Physics, where he was a student of Kurchatov himself, and went to work at the Biophysical Institute of the USSR Ministry of Health. However, when Fedorov was 32 years old, filmmakers noticed him. Film director Alexander Ptushko invited the young scientist to play the role of the sorcerer-villain Chernomor in the fairy-tale film Ruslan and Lyudmila, and this is how his successful film career began. Fedorov lived 82 years and died in 2021.

Elena Gant

Elena Gant was born in Russia, but later moved to California, where she now lives. There, the woman married Preston Gant, an actor, assistant director and producer, and also began a career in show business.

Although Elena is only 132 centimeters tall, she has a rather spectacular appearance: bright curls, lush breasts. In America, Gant became famous for starring in the reality series Little Women, where little women like herself talked about their lives. Recently, she switched to family and active social networks, where she talks about her life with her husband and three children.

Meredith Eaton

Meredith became the first woman with dwarfism (and her height is only 122 centimeters) to star in American prime time – she played the role of lawyer Emily Resnick in the CBS television series Family Law. After that, she got another main role – Matilda “Matty” Webber in the CBS series “MacGyver”.

Her film career took off immediately. Meredith successfully completed her first casting in 1999, beating out 500 contestants. Before that, she managed to get a master’s degree in clinical psychology – and for good reason. According to the actress, the education gave her the opportunity to better understand the dynamics of the character while preparing for roles.

André Boucher

Just look at the photo and the familiar music from the Boyard Fortress show starts playing in my head. The whole world recognized the French actor André Boucher as Passepartout’s nurse, who accompanied the player to all rehearsals. The height of the actor is 120 centimeters, but this did not prevent him from pursuing a career on television. In addition to Fort Boyard, Boucher starred in illusionist Gilles Arthur’s show and TV movies. Star disease did not affect Andre – even at the height of his popularity, he continued to work as a cashier in the Paris metro.

Michael Jay Anderson

Michael J Anderson wanted to make a career as a scientist and even managed to work at NASA, thanks to which he created one of the most mystical and terrifying images on the screen. He’s the same dwarf from Twin Peaks. Series director David Lynch was struck by Anderson’s unusual ability to speak words backwards, greatly expanding his role and the trick was used on set. The “flipped” phrases in the film were again scrolled in reverse, creating an unusual phonetic effect.

Then the actor got a full-fledged role in Lynch’s film Mulholland Drive. There, by the way, his figure is of average height, so the actor had to use prosthetics. In recent years, the actor has not acted in films.

Kenny Baker

Do you recognize this actor by sight? But you definitely know him! It’s just that in his most famous film, he spends all of his screen time inside props. Kenny Baker played the robot R2-D2 in seven episodes of George Lucas’ stellar space saga. The role was not easy: even a dwarf with a height of 112 centimeters was cramped in his body, and he also had to control the movements and “voice” of the droid. But the director himself praised Baker’s work and noted that he gave R2-D2 a recognizable character.

Kenny began his career in the circus and in the late 1990s began performing in the stand-up genre. Baker was married to a dwarf woman, they had two children who did not pass on the disease. The actor died at the age of 81 in 2016.

Warwick Davis

This actor also got his start with George Lucas. After learning that there was a casting for dwarf actors, 11-year-old Davis auditioned and won the role of the Ewok alien Wickett. As an adult, the actor appeared in another cult saga – the Harry Potter films. There he played Professor Kratiknot and the goblin Griphook.

But his most famous role remains the Goblin in the eponymous series of horror films from the 90s. Davis is married to a dwarf woman, they have two children who have inherited the disease.

Martin Klebba

The charismatic and smiling actor can compete with Dinklage in popularity in Hollywood. Martin made his debut in 2001 in a cameo role in the film Planet of the Apes, where he was not even mentioned in the credits. But then the career took off. Klebb’s lucky ticket was drawn at the casting of the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”, where he won the role of the pirate Marty, who appears both in the first part and in the sequels. In total, the actor with a height of 124 centimeters has more than a hundred roles in his filmography and also manages a non-profit foundation that helps people with dwarfism.
