'I got distracted talking on my cell phone': Alec Baldwin accused of killing cameraman

The tragedy at the scene occurred in October 2021. Now the Santa Fe County, New Mexico District Attorney’s Office is ready to put an end to this story. Baldwin claims he did not know the gun was loaded with live ammunition. The Hollywood actor insists that what happened was a tragic accident. If found guilty, the actor faces up to five years in prison.

Court documents noted an oddity in Baldwin’s testimony: He first said he shot himself, then insisted he didn’t pull the trigger. At the same time, the video surveillance footage shows that shortly before the fatal shot, Alec had his hand on the trigger.

Prosecutors note that Baldwin was absent from the first firearms training session. The second training lasted only half an hour instead of 60 minutes. “At this time, Baldwin was inattentive and was talking on his cell phone with his family during practice,” court documents say.

Not only the actor was indicted, but also the gunsmith of the film, Hannah Gutierrez Reid. She faces up to 18 months in prison. Assistant director David Halls was also charged. He was not guilty.

Galina Hutchins died on set

Last fall, Alec filed a counterclaim, accusing three members of the film crew and another person who supplied ammunition for the filming of the film.
