TV frontman Tom Verlaine has died

Jessie Paris Smith, daughter of artist Patti Smith, spoke about the tragedy. Tom had a passionate affair with Patty. Jessie turned with tenderness and warmth to the musician, who was truly a close person to her.

“Dear Tom! Love is immeasurable and eternal. My heart is too full to share everything at this moment, and finding words is too much effort. It feels so heavy inside, though your spirit is light: now it is everywhere and truly free. I will always love you and remember the touch of your hand: the hand of a wonderful creator and a love warmer, more tender and so true that one can only dream of,” Jessie wrote emotionally on her personal blog.

Tom’s real last name is Miller. He was born in Danville, New Jersey. The musician took his pseudonym in honor of the poet Paul Verlaine. In 1973 Tom founded the punk rock band Television. Her music and lyrics proved to be a huge influence on the rock industry.

Verlaine helped record the songs of Patti Smith, who was considered the “godmother of punk rock”. The Television group itself existed for five years: during this time two records were recorded. In the 1990s and 2000s, the musicians got together again and recorded another album.

Tom is considered a pioneer of punk rock, post-punk and new wave. He was ranked 90th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
