Believe it or not, Amy Winehouse didn’t always aspire to be an artist. She once found inspiration in the simplest life and dreamed of being a roller skate waitress like in the movie American Graffiti. Her first job was as a celebrity reporter for the World Entertainment News Network.
2. She started a rap group when she was 10
As a child, great ideas are born every minute, and Amy was no exception. At the age of 10, she formed a rap group called Sweet’n’Sour with her best friend Juliette Ashby. The girls were inspired by the pioneering all-female rap group Salt-N-Pepa, and even recorded some tracks in an actual studio thanks to Ashby’s father. Growing up, they remained close friends and rented a flat together in Camden, Amy Winehouse’s favorite area of London. Juliette also became a singer.

3 She almost got into Bond
In 2008, Amy Winehouse almost became the heroine of the James Bond film. She was offered to write a song for “Quantum of Solace”, the 22nd film of the 007 saga, but due to personal problems she was unable to fulfill the contract.
4. The singer Prince was a fan of hers.
During an interview in 2007, Amy Winehouse revealed that Prince would like to perform with her. He even covered her hit Love is a Losing Game. The artists planned to record a new duet together, but these plans never materialized.
5. She founded the record company “Lioness Records”
In 2009, Amy Winehouse started her own label to support her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, who was just 13 years old at the time. The studio is still active today, with the label holding several artists who were close to the singer, such as Juliette Ashby, her backing singer Zalon and Liam Bailey.
6 She Had An Unusual Pet Nickname
For some reason, Amy included a reference to the word “lioness” in the name of her studio. It’s actually a nickname her grandmother Cynthia gave her. The singer even had such a pendant.
7. Amy Winehouse’s first manager was associated with the Spice Girls.
At 19, Winehouse signed with manager Nick Godwin of 19 Entertainment. The company was founded by Simon Fuller, the man responsible for creating Pop Idol and managing the Spice Girls. Godwin later said that Winehouse “wasn’t someone who wanted to be a pop star”. She fired him in 2006.
8 Amy Winehouse was a guitarist
Everyone remembers Winehouse as an extremely talented singer and songwriter, but she could also play the guitar quite well. When she was 11 or 12, she started stealing her brother’s red Fender Stratocaster and eventually bought her own acoustic guitar. Amy was self-taught but learned enough chords to accompany herself and write songs.
9. She got her first tattoo as a teenager.
Amy was known for her old school tattoos. She had 14 in total. Winehouse’s first tattoo was Betty Boop, a cartoon character from the 1930s, which she got on her back when she was 15.
Amy Winehouse’s last 10 demos have been destroyed
A few weeks before her death in July 2011, Winehouse finished writing songs for her third album. She even booked studio time with producers Salam Remi and Mark Ronson for the end of the year. Demos from this period never saw the light of day as Universal Music UK boss David Joseph destroyed the records as a moral obligation.
