How a Russian girl fell in love with Hollywood but died young under mysterious circumstances: the tragedy of Natalie Wood Stars

Natalie Wood is an American actress of Russian descent. Natalia’s parents – Nikolai Zakharenko and Maria Zudilova – moved to the United States from Barnaul. Their daughter showed remarkable acting potential from an early age and at the age of 4 she got her first film role. It was a real American dream: very soon Natalie became a popular young movie actress.

Even academics recognized her talent: in 1955, seventeen-year-old Natalie was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Judy in the film Rebel Without an Ideal.

Further more. World fame Wood brought a role in the film “West Side Story” (1961), which was corrected by the film “Gypsy” (1962) and “The Great Race” (1965). And for her work in the films Beauty in the Grass (1961) and Love with a Suitable Stranger (1963), Natalie was again nominated for an Oscar.

In her personal life, the actress was not passionate. She met her first husband, Robert Wagner, at the age of 10. Rob was then 18. The girl had already decided to marry him, which she immediately informed her mother about.

Of course, the actor didn’t feel the fate of the meeting at the time, but years later he still drew attention to Natalie during the filming of the movie “Rebel without a Cause”.

It was love at first sight, and Wood and Wagner were soon married. Fans were delighted and called the actors the most beautiful couple in Hollywood. Unfortunately, this union was not destined to last long. Five years later they fled, and their separation cannot be called peaceful.

It turns out that Robert has become envious of Natalie’s success: her career is on the rise, while his is on the decline. Against this background, there were constant arguments, and in 1961 Natasha ran out of patience: she packed her things and left to live with her parents, after which she filed for divorce.

In 1969, the actress remarried. Now the British producer Richard Gregson has become her chosen one. A year later, they became parents: their daughter Natasha was born.

It would seem: here is the luck. Not for one “but”: Wood could not forget her ex-husband. At that time, he had also started a family, but it was as if he couldn’t let go of Natalia either. Every now and then they met at events and couldn’t break the connection. Coincidence or not, just 11 months into their marriage, Wood and Gregson separated (they said she still hadn’t forgiven him for the affair) and the divorce was finalized in 1972.

Natalie and Robert took the opportunity and decided to give their relationship a second chance. After 2 years, they became parents: a girl named Courtney was born. Knowing the reason for their past breakup, Wood decided to focus on her family and pay less attention to her career.

It might have been a lifelong love story, but it didn’t have a happy ending. On the night of November 28-29, 1981, Natalie drowned under mysterious circumstances while sailing on a yacht in California. She was only 43 years old.

The death of the actress is still one of the main mysteries of Hollywood. Resting with Natalie that evening was her husband Robert, a friend of her husband Christopher Walken and the captain of the ship Dennis Davern. As the men say, the three of them had dinner that day and decided to have another drink before returning to the yacht. An argument began between Christopher and Robert about the art, and Natalie, tired of their conversation, announced that she was going to the cabin. Upon his return, Vágner did not find his wife and turned to the paramedics. The body of the actress was found in the morning. Then the investigation determined that Natalie slipped, hit her head, lost consciousness and drowned.

Many were then embarrassed that Wagner did not cooperate with the investigation and changed his testimony. After 30 years, the investigation was reopened due to new testimony from the ship’s captain. He said the fight between the men was much more serious than they described: screams and blows could be heard. Then everyone remembered the hematomas on Wood’s body and the cause of death was changed from “accidental drowning” to “drowning”. However, the perpetrators were never found and punished.
