In the 1980s, the number of AIDS patients was growing rapidly and almost nothing was known about the disease. At the time, many mistakenly believed that AIDS was transmitted by airborne droplets, and thus also by touch. That is why the infected became outcasts.

In the spring of 1987, the first AIDS unit opened in the UK. Prince Charles refused to attend the ceremony, but Diana did not.

In addition, she not only attended the event, but also spoke to the patients and greeted them with a confident handshake. Lady Dee thus publicly disproved the myth of AIDS being contagious by touch.

“Diana, in our opinion, has done more to help people with HIV than anyone else, and no one has done anything like it yet,” said Gavin Hart, founder of the National AIDS Trust, National AIDS Trust. And we can only agree with him.
