Armen Nikolaevich was born on May 28, 1938 in Moscow. In 1960, he graduated in film history at VGIK. From 1966 to 1972, he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine Soviet Film, then headed the Art of Cinema publication.

Medvedev starred in several films and TV series. The most famous of them are “Female Logic”, “Detectives”, “Summer Rain”, “Red Square”. He was the producer of the films “Khrustalev, car!”, “Three and a Snowflake”, “Sibirochka” and others.

In 1992, Armen Nikolayevich became the chairman of Goskino Russia. Mikhail Ulyanov wrote about him: “Armen Nikolayevich Medvedev was in the right place at the right time. The responsibility is huge – it’s a movie after all. In addition, the task is to preserve the national face of cinematography. Do not cut it according to other people’s patterns or for other hobbies, but develop it in accordance with the spirit of the people. And knowledge of the history of cinematography, feeling for cinematography and love for film and those who make it are also important here.”

Medvedev headed Goskin until 1999. Then he was the president of the “Window to Europe” film festival held in Vyborg. He taught film criticism at VGIK for forty years.
